TOO LITTLE TOO LATE

CLIENT

Red Elevator Productions was an adventurous media company that married technology and live theatre, and was a forerunner to one of New York's most buzzed about rising theatre troupes, Lesser America.

PROJECT

Off-Broadway Showcase, World Premiere Production

DESCRIPTION

Red Elevator was a small company with big ambitions. They couldn't afford the rights to a full-length play, so they needed to get creative, and make a major splash with a modest budget. As their lead producer, I helped conceive of Too Little Too Late, an evening of bare-knuckle, ten-minute plays that explored the relationship between technology and (dis)connection in modern relationships.  We assembled some of New York's most exciting up-and-coming playwrights, directors, and actors, and launched a theater-as-pop-music social media campaign that resulted in a sold-out run at HERE Arts.

MY WORK

  • Concept development

  • Live event production

  • Scouted and commissioned playwrights

  • Hired talent and crew

  • Creative direction

  • Copywriting (press releases, digital advertisements, etc.)

  • Oversaw content for production micro-site

SEQUELS

Following the production, Too Little Too Late's then-emerging writers; a group including Lucy Alibar, Sam Forman, Amy Herzog, Bekah Brunstetter and Elizabeth Meriwether - went on, respectively, to be nominated for an Academy Award (Screenplay, Beasts of the Southern Wild), write for Netflix’s House of Cards, be a Pulitzer Prize finalist (drama, 4000 Miles), write for the NBC hit This is Us, and create the smash FOX comedy, New Girl.

The success of Too Little Too Late resulted in continued collaboration between several of the production's principals, and led directly to the birth of one of New York's most dynamic and creative theatre companies, Lesser America.
